Buba Bureka is a new breakfast-lunch takeout counter opening up in the heart of Greenwich Village. We’re entirely focused on perfecting the bureka, a savory Mediterranean pastry served with briny pickles, crushed tomato, and a perfectly jammy egg. Job Description:

The Prep Cook position is an essential part of our team, and involves handling all preliminary food prep duties, ensuring ingredients are ready for cooking and baking, and maintaining kitchen equipment in good condition. As a Prep Cook, you will help create a seamless experience for guests by being a vital link between the kitchen.

Responsibilities and Expectations:

  • Contribute to the preparation and production of burekas, maintaining quality and consistency.
  • Support other team members by restocking stations and providing supplies as needed throughout the day.
  • Regularly move ingredients and supplies between storage areas, including navigating stairs to access inventory.
  • Assist with tracking ingredient usage and waste to support efficient kitchen operations.
  • Prepare ingredients by washing, chopping, and seasoning, following established kitchen procedures.
  • Operate and maintain kitchen equipment, such as mixers and food processors, ensuring cleanliness and functionality.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment, adhering to health and safety standards.
  • Receive and store inventory deliveries properly, ensuring freshness and organization.
  • Assist with other tasks as needed to ensure smooth operations.

Skills and Requirements:

  • At least 1 year of experience in a prep cook or similar role in a high-volume kitchen.
  • NYC Food Handler’s License required (or willingness to obtain)
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Attention to detail and consistency in food preparation and support tasks.
  • Physical ability to navigate stairs regularly, stand for extended periods, and lift 50+ lbs as needed.
  • Comfortable working early mornings, holidays, and weekends when required.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Competitive hourly wage: $17.50-18.50/hour, plus tips as part of a tip-sharing system for all eligible team members.
