Job Summary

The Network and Telecommunications Engineer will actively contribute network and telecommunications operations under general direction. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to network and telecommunications hardware and software deployment, patch management, configuration management, lifecycle management, consulting the Infrastructure Manager on network and telecommunications operations and metrics, assisting in the development and implementation of policy and procedures governing network and telecommunications operations.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serves as technical resource for the network and telecommunications infrastructure operations addressing requests within service level agreements and defined uptime requirements.
  • Maintain integrity and conduct approved changes to network and telecommunications configuration and architecture.
  • Conduct network and telecommunications hardware, firmware, and software patch management.
  • Conduct the deployment of network and telecommunications hardware and software.
  • Assist with network and telecommunications lifecycle management to include identifying replacement hardware and the decommissioning of assets following established procedures.
  • Maintain configuration management platforms and systems.
  • Participate in incident management, service request fulfillment, change management, and asset management.
  • Participate in establishing technical standards for endpoint systems and services.
  • Create supporting documentation for network and telecommunications administration including topology, standards, and procedures.
  • Implement and maintain relevant monitoring and reporting systems to align with established metrics and performance objectives.
  • Assist third party vendors for network and telecommunications technology and services.
  • Prepare and present pertinent project material.
  • Maintain working knowledge of IT operations and functions.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation.
  • Work on special projects as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Requirements

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • At least 6 months of employment with the York County IT department or 6 months of experience or training with network and telecommunications.
  • Familiar with current network and telecommunications infrastructure support best practices, routing, switching, firewall, and voice platforms.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and staff from other County departments.
  • Able to perform effectively under pressure and in high-stress environments.
  • Capable of explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Proven team player with a collaborative mindset.
  • Understanding of York County Government's operational model, processes, and strategic goals.
  • Completion of a Pennsylvania Criminal Background check and fingerprinting, required for all employees in this role.
  • Possession of a valid and current driver’s license.
