Job Description

Position Summary:Janitorial/Floor Team will ensure effective physical cleanliness of all assigned areas; be responsible for the sanitation of assigned areas and other duties as assigned by the Janitorial Supervisor. Perform routing cleaning as required.

Must adhere to strict cleaning standards set forth by the IL Valley YMCA and must be consistent with keeping to those cleaning standards every day during their shift. Ensure excellent member service by addressing member concerns in a timely fashion and providing a clean and safe facility

Job Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license.
• One year or more of related janitorial experience.
• Perform all physical aspects of the position, including pushing, pulling, walking, and standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.
• Physical ability to reach, bend, stretch and be able to occasionally climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or stand for extended periods of time.
• Regularly carry/lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently carry/lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally carry/lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work with cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms.
• Ability to read labels, MSDS information sheets, and instructions, and operate motorized equipment as needed.

Essential Functions:

• Perform multiple cleaning tasks to insure effective housekeeping of the facility as assigned and ensure member satisfaction
• Perform routine housekeeping as per daily and weekly schedules
• Mix chemical solutions according to manufacturer’s formula. Follow manufacturer’s directions for use of product
• Ensure all safety and risk procedures are followed
• Report unusual conditions to supervisor
• Ensure proper supply levels of toilet tissue, paper towels, soap and any other services provided
• Report items needing repair to supervisor
• Assist and/or perform projects of a special nature such as deep cleaning of showers or toilet areas
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all co-workers and members
• Attend related training and meetings as required
• Perform other related duties as assigned
• Maintain current stock of maintenance and janitorial supplies including but not limited to: paper supplies, cleaning supplies, etc.
• Maintain a clean and neat appearance.

The effectiveness of a successful janitor will be demonstrated by a clean, safe, and inviting environment for members, program participants, guests and staff.
