About Boundless

Boundless is the universal ZK protocol making blockchains internet-scale. It turns zero-knowledge proofs into a tradable resource: a global marketplace where anyone can contribute compute and power applications, rollups, and infrastructure across every ecosystem. About the Role

We are looking for a seasoned, visionary, and operationally excellent CTO to define and execute our technology strategy. This is a full-spectrum leadership role: you will own architecture, product engineering, infrastructure, developer experience, security, and team-scale. You will sit on the executive team, partner with the CEO and COO, and drive the technological growth of the company from early stage to scale.

You’ll be accountable for technical vision and delivery, while also building and mentoring the engineering organisation, setting processes, and steering Boundless Networks into becoming a trusted platform in the web3 space.

What You’ll Do

  • Technology & Architecture Vision:
    • Define the multi-year technology roadmap aligned with business goals, market timing, and ecosystem strategy.
    • Architect a scalable platform: distributed systems, cross-chain integrations, APIs/SDKs, rich developer environments, data infrastructure.
    • Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies (e.g., zero-knowledge proofs, modular chains, trusted compute, cross-domain messaging).
  • Engineering Leadership & Team Growth:
    • Build and scale the engineering organisation: recruit senior tech leads, define team structure and career paths.
    • Establish engineering culture: high ownership, velocity, quality, dev-tooling, knowledge sharing.
    • Set and oversee engineering processes: design reviews, release management, testing, observability, tech debt.
  • Product & Developer Experience:
    • Partner with Product leadership to align technology and product roadmaps: feature delivery, developer onboarding, ecosystem tools.
    • Own developer-facing infrastructure: SDKs, APIs, docs, testnets, hackathons — to remove friction and grow adoption.
  • Infrastructure, Reliability & Security:
    • Own non-functional requirements: reliability, performance, scalability, security, compliance and privacy.
    • Ensure operations across the network are robust: upgrades, migrations, incident response, monitoring.
  • Stakeholder & Ecosystem Engagement:
    • Represent Boundless Networks externally: at conferences, in partnerships, with investors, and open-source communities.
    • Translate technical strategy into business value for partners, customers, and the Board.
    • Build strategic alliances with other protocols, infra providers, and ecosystem players.

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

  • 12+ years of tech leadership (engineering, architecture) with at least 3-5 years in a senior executive/CTO role, ideally in web3, crypto, or platform infrastructure.
  • Proven track record building and shipping large-scale platform/infrastructure products, preferably with external developer ecosystems.
  • Strong hands-on architectural experience: distributed systems, APIs/SDKs, data infrastructure, cloud/Kubernetes, optionally blockchain/crypto infra.
  • Deep familiarity with web3 protocols: smart contracts, consensus, modular chain design, crypto-economics, developer tools.
  • Exemplary leadership: hiring, mentoring, scaling teams, defining culture and processes.
  • Excellent communicator: capable of speaking with engineers, product teams, investors, partners, and the Board.
  • Strategic thinker with a bias for action—able to move fast in a startup environment and build for scale.

Bonus Points

  • Previous CTO/VP Engineering experience at a Layer 1/L2 protocol, crypto exchange, or infrastructure-heavy web3 company.
  • Strong background in crypto-economics, token design, staking or consensus protocols.
  • Open-source contributions, public technical speaking, or reputation in the web3 developer ecosystem.
  • Experience with modular architectures, zero-knowledge proofs, trusted compute (TEEs), cross-domain messaging or cross-chain infra.
  • Technical fluency with languages such as Rust, Go, Solidity, or equivalent protocol-level stacks.
